Chain Lock

Door chains provide a useful visual and short-range barrier for identity checks but are not a substitute for a mortice/deadbolt; fit with long coach screws into the frame and use as secondary security only.

Choose heavy-duty chain guards or locked chain plates specifically designed for uPVC/composite doors and fit them to reinforced backing plates or frame fixings to reduce pulling-out risk.

Chain locks are commonly allowed but they must not conflict with fire escape requirements; landlords should use approved door furniture and ensure tenants can exit quickly in an emergency.

Use longer, coach-style fixings into solid frame material, replace thin chains with thicker gauge versions and add a door-viewer or chain-compatible latch to improve both safety and usability.
