A sliding door lock is specifically designed to secure doors that slide horizontally rather than swing. The best models feature hook bolts or multi-point locking mechanisms to resist lifting or prying.
To ensure correct fitting, measure your door’s thickness and the track clearance. Always choose a lock compatible with the door material, whether aluminium, timber, or uPVC to guarantee proper engagement and smooth operation.
Standard mortice or lever locks are not suitable for sliding doors, as they don’t engage with the frame in the same way. A purpose-built sliding door lock provides better resistance to lifting and forced entry.
Sliding door locks should be lubricated with dry graphite and checked regularly for alignment. Keep tracks clean and ensure the bolt fully engages to prevent locking issues or frame damage.
