A high-security padlock is built from hardened materials like boron steel and features anti-pick, anti-drill and anti-bump technology. Unlike standard padlocks, these are often certified to CEN or Sold Secure standards, offering superior resistance to forced entry.
The right padlock for outdoor use should have a corrosion-resistant or weatherproof body, such as stainless steel or brass. Look for models specifically designed for marine or exterior environments to ensure long-term performance in rain and temperature changes.
Not all padlocks meet insurance standards. Insurers often require locks with at least a CEN Grade 3 or Sold Secure Gold rating. Using a non-rated padlock could affect insurance validity for high-value or commercial applications.
Padlocks should be cleaned regularly to remove dirt and grit, especially from the shackle area. Apply a dry graphite or silicone lubricant to the keyway and avoid oil-based sprays that can attract debris.
