Brass Padlock

Brass padlocks are ideal for everyday use and outdoor environments because brass resists corrosion well. For harsh marine settings, consider “marine” variants with stainless shackles or fully stainless models.

They’re highly weather-resistant but not always fully waterproof. In persistent exposure or salt spray, select marine-grade designs (e.g., brass body with stainless shackle, protective seals) to extend service life.

Consider independent ratings like Sold Secure or CEN; higher grades (e.g., Gold or CEN 4+) indicate stronger resistance to cutting and attack. Pair with an appropriate hasp/chain to avoid weak links.

Periodic flushing with fresh water (if in a salty environment) and using a suitable lock lubricant on the cylinder help prevent corrosion and sticking. Avoid heavy oils that attract grit.
